A small packaged spectroscopic sensor unit for an instrument is disclosed. The spectroscopic sensor unit receives light through a bundle of optical fibers, where the light is emitted from an inspection light source. The light is diffuse-transmitted through an inspection object where the received light is separated spectroscopically into spectra. The spectra is thus inspected by an array type sensor to determine the interior quality of the inspection object. An end of the optical fiber bundle, acting as a light-receiving face, receives a part of the diffuse-transmitted light at incident angles smaller than a prescribed angle, relative to the center line of the optical fiber, and excluding the light of incident angle larger than the prescribed angle. Each of the fibers of the optical fiber bundle are twisted together in a uniform layer thickness to disperse and uniformize irregularity in the received light at the light-emitting end. The light-emitting end of the optical fiber bundle is arranged and held by a holder in the same shape as the light-receiving face of a light diffuser and the light-receiving face of a photoelectric conversion element. The light diffuser is provided for diffuse-transmitting light from the light-emitting face of the optical fiber bundle. A continuous variable interface filter is provided at the light emitting face of the light diffuser, and a photoelectric conversion element is provided after the continuous variable interference filter. The optical fiber bundle, the light diffuser, and the continuous variable interference filter are aligned to have a common optical path, and are housed airtightly and fixed in a package.
