PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of raising the average value of the brightness of an optical engine by adjusting the alignment of a lamp, thereby eliminating vignetting in photodevelopment at a PS element part. SOLUTION: In the projection type display device equipped with a lamp means having a light source, an elliptical reflection mirror and a concave lens, a light beam whose principal light beam is nearly parallel is emitted from the lamp means. The display device has an adjusting mechanism for the concave lens so as to move at least in one direction on a plane orthogonal to the optical axis of an optical system. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
