PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing a 1,2-benzisothiazole in high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 1,2-benzisothiazole of formula(2)( wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is the same as mentioned below ) comprises reacting the corresponding benzaldehydoxime of formula(1)( wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, nitro, carboxy or its esters, or a halogen atom; and R<SP>2</SP>is a 1-4C alkyl ) with an acid anhydride.
