The method is for the determining of soot loading of a particle filter in especially a diesel engine, whereby a change of pressure differential across the particle filter on account of the amount of ash accumulated in the filter is determined from a model, from which a maximum increase of the pressure differential across the filter is determined. A correction value for the loading value is determined and from the correction value and loading value a corrected loading value is calculated in such a way that the pressure differential across the filter previously determined from the model is compensated for.
