The invention relates to a device for blocking a motor vehicle steering shaft (1) and preventing the rotation thereof by means of a blocking bolt (2) interacting with blocking slots (3) of the steering shaft (1). A control two-direction rotating element (14) enables a blocking axis to carry out a reciprocating motion with respect to the axis of rotation thereof between the blocking position and a releasing position and to be engaged in a laterally projected manner with a pin (19) into helical groove (18) of the control element (14), said helical groove winding around the axis of rotation thereof on the frontal face thereof which is adjacent to the blocking bolt (2). Said invention is characterised in that the blocking bolt (2) is embodied in the form of a monoblock and the pin (19) thereof is movably arranged and controlled by a spring towards the control element (14) which is provided with an oblique surface (24) which interacts with the pin (19) and extends from the bottom (22) of the helical groove (18) towards the flat surface (23) of the control element (14) oriented towards the blocking bolt (2). In doing that, the pin (19) can exit from the helical groove (18) oppositely to the spring (21) loading and the control element (14) can rotate until the position thereof which corresponds to the blocking position of the blocking bolt (2) even when said blocking bolt (2) does not penetrate into any blocking slot (3) of the steering shaft (1).
