PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute highly confidential authentication procedures of a battery device with simple processing in a system composed of the battery device and a portable device. SOLUTION: The authentication system is provided with a first communication control means which is mounted to the battery device and transmits authentication data indicating that the battery device is a regular product; and a second communication control means which is mounted to the portable device, receives the authentication data transmitted from the first communication control means in a state that the battery device is mounted to the portable device, and judges whether the battery device is a regular product or not on the basis of the authentication data. The first communication control means transmits the true authentication data only at specific timing specified by a predetermined secret rule while repeatedly transmitting false authentication data. The second communication control means repeatedly receives the authentication data transmitted from the first communication control means, and judges on the basis of only the authentication data received at the specific timing specified by the secret rule.
