METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR COMPRESSING IMAGE DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress pseudo gradation image data at high speed with high compressibility using a dither pattern and further to develop the image data at high speed using small-scaled hardware. SOLUTION: A method for compressing pseudo gradation image data using a dither pattern includes: partitioning the image data for each of predetermined regions; determining whether an array pattern of dots of the image data in each region is matched with the dither pattern used for pseudo gradation; finding a representative value for a density of the image data in that region if matched; and creating compressed data using the found representative value.
