<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the soiling of a charging roller 20 caused by the adhesion of toner and to restrain production of a harmful substance such as ozone. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a charging device 4 equipped with a charging roller 20 coming into contact with the surface of a photoreceptor drum 2, and a controller 18 for controlling the charging device 4 so that the surface of the photoreceptor drum 2 can be electrified by applying voltage to the charging roller 20. In a toner refreshing mode, the controller 18 controls the charging device 4 so as to apply the voltage having the same polarity as the toner and set within the range of 100 to 300 V to the charging roller 20. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
