PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical apparatus in which a liquid will not leak, even if the apparatus is turned upside down, during assembly or transporting and that can ensure a fixed level of bearing performance. SOLUTION: A typical example of the configuration of the scanning optical apparatus is a semiconductor laser unit 101, a rotating polygon mirror 3 which deflects and scans a luminous flux emitted from the semiconductor laser unit 101, and a rotor 5 which holds and turns the rotating polygon mirror 3. The scanning optical apparatus is characterized, by having a laser shutter 2 which is movable between a locking position at which the movement of the rotor 5 in the thrust direction is locked, and a release position at which the lock of the rotor 5 is released.
