<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut off light leaking in a circumference of a photospacer in a vertical alignment type liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: An element substrate has TFD elements, wiring lines, and pixel electrodes. Each pixel electrode has a plurality of polygonal unit electrode portions and connecting portions, which are in a narrow constricted shape and connect the unit electrode portions. The pixel electrode is almost in a shape of three rice doughs on a stick, as viewed in planar view. Consequently, regions E1 are formed between mutually adjacent pixel electrodes nearby their connecting portions. The region E1 is formed apart from the mutually adjacent pixel electrodes and has specified region secured, so the photospacer is arranged. A light-shielding portion is formed in the region E1 overlapping the photospacer. The light, leaking in the circumference of the photospacer, can be surely cut off to prevent decrease in contrast etc. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
