PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide composite fluid machine capable of eliminating influence of a pump when operated only by a compressor while enabling operation of the pump by an expander and utilizing exhaust heat effectively when operation of the compressor is unnecessary, and to provide a refrigerator using the machine. SOLUTION: This composite fluid machine has the compressor 110 for compressing fluid and discharging it, the expander 110 for generating driving force by expansion of working fluid circulated by the pump 130, and a rotary electric machine 120 having both functions of a power generator and an electric motor. The compressor 110, the expander 110, the rotary electric machine 120, and the pump 130 are connected in series. An intermittent switching means 140 for switching a connection condition of the rotary electric machine 120 and the pump 130 into a disconnected condition when the compressor 110 is driven by the rotary electric machine 120 is provided.
