The method is for the dismantling of visual display unit fixtures, especially of television screens and/or computer monitors, whereby the VDUs (2) are positioned so that the screen side (3) is facing a press-out device (1). The axially movable ram (9) of the press-out device is positioned in a plane above the VDU and then presses the screen in an axial direction from the fixture housing (5) far enough to the rear for the screen holders (6) to be destroyed and the front frame (4) of the housing released. A spreading device (15) engages in the front frame and spreads it so that the screen can be withdrawn in the direction of the ram. An independent claim is included for a device for carrying out the aforesaid method.
