The method for assessing the effects of breathing on the spectrogram of the heart rhythm comprises the simultaneous synchronous record of ECG and the pneumogram. The spectrogram of RR intervals and the histogram of the respiratory cycle duration are plotted. The mode of the histogram of the respiratory cycle duration is calculated and identified. Then the spectrogram of the high frequency component of the heart rhythm is superimposed. Finally, the mean or the median as well as the variability of the array for the spirointervals are estimated.
