PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer of a high versatility which can print predetermined character strings or the like to both a medium to be printed such as a tape for printing held in a cassette together with an ink ribbon for printing, and a disk-like predetermined medium to be printed such as an optical disk by the single apparatus. SOLUTION: An apparatus body 2 has a single storing part 6. A tape cassette 70 which holds the tape for printing and the ink ribbon is stored in the storing part 6. Printing is carried out to the tape for printing via a thermal head 8 by sending the tape for printing and the ink ribbon by a platen roller 7. Printing can be carried out to the optical disk via the thermal head 8 by storing the optical disk in the storing part 6 together with a ribbon cassette which holds only the ink ribbon, and sending the ink ribbon and the optical disk by the platen roller 7.
