PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for heightening the octane number of a petroleum/petrochemical raffinate to effectively utilize the petroleum/petrochemical raffinate conventionally considered as a remainder as a high-quality gasoline base material having the high octane number. SOLUTION: The method for heightening the octane number of the petroleum/petrochemical raffinate with 60-150°C boiling point range, and mainly comprising a 6-8C fraction comprises a distillation step for dividing the petroleum/petrochemical raffinate to two fractions of a light distillate and a heavy distillate, an isomerization step for carrying out the isomerization treatment of the light distillate obtained at the distillation step, and a step for blending the isomerized product obtained at the isomerization step with the heavy distillate obtained at the distillation step in order.
