摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scalable and low-cost switch cluster which has a greater exchange capacity than the conventional switch and flexibly deals with the change of required exchange capacity and the increase of the number of communication terminals even after designing a network. <P>SOLUTION: The switch cluster used as a communication switch system in a packet exchange network comprises a plurality of switch nodules and a control means. Each switch module comprises an electric switch and an optical ADM unit capable of inserting/extracting optical signals having an optional wavelength. The electric switch of each module is interconnected with the electric switches of other modules through a first line. The ADM unit of the module is connected with the ADM units of other modules through an optical line in a ring.
