PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thienothiophene compound having wide applicability in electronic use, low toxicity, good environmental stability and high positive highest occupied molecular orbit (HOMO). SOLUTION: The compound is a thienothiophene containing a 3-8C secondary or tertiary alkyl group. The thienothiophene is expressed by the formula (R is a 3-8C secondary or tertiary alkyl; X and X' are each independently selected from H, a halogen atom, MgCl, MgBr, MgI, Sn(R')<SB>3</SB>, boronic acid, a boronic acid ester, CH=CHR", O(1-6C alkyl), COO(1-6C alkyl), S-CORR"', COR"', C≡CH and a polymerizable aromatic group; R' is a 1-6C alkyl or O(1-6C alkyl); R" is H or a 1-6C alkyl; and R"' is H or a 1-6C alkyl).
