摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost and simply structured electrooptical device such as a liquid crystal display device, with which power consumption is suppressed to a low level while retaining high light transmittance in realizing switching of a viewing angle in display. <P>SOLUTION: The electrooptical device 1A has an electrooptical panel 2, a first illuminator 3 and a second illuminator 4 disposed on the rear side of the electrooptical panel 2 seen from the observer's side as indicated with an arrow A and emitting light toward the electrooptical panel 2. Directivity of the light emitted from the first illuminator 3 close to the liquid crystal panel 2 is set to be narrower than that of the light emitted from the second illuminator 4 far from the liquid crystal panel 2. The light emitted from the second illuminator 4 is transmitted by the first illuminator 3 and is supplied to the liquid crystal panel 2, By selectively using the two illuminators whose directivity different from each other, display with a narrow viewing angle and display with a wide viewing angle are selectively displayed from the liquid crystal panel 2 as needed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
