A method for overwriting data in a recording medium includes the steps of assigning a plurality of record areas to the recording medium, and recording the same category data in individual record areas; and performing a replacement record operation at a specific position indicative of a closest writable area, upon receiving an overwrite command, and maintaining the same category data in the record area after performing the replacement record operation. The method for overwriting data in a recording medium includes the steps of assigning at least one Sequential Recording Range (SRR) to the recording medium, and recording data in the assigned SRR; b) upon receiving an overwrite command associated with a pre-recorded area contained in the SRR, performing a replacement record operation in a writable area contained in the SRR; and c) if the writable area is not present in the SRR, performing a replacement record operation in a writable area contained in an adjacent SRR. |
