<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pigment water dispersion, which reduces the particle diameter of pigment during pigment dispersion and provides a printed matter having an excellent color tone. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a pigment water dispersion for inkjet recording comprises mixing an emulsified composition containing an acidic group-containing water-insoluble polymer, an organic solvent having a solubility of≥1 part wt. in 100 parts wt. of water at 20°C, a basic compound and water with azo-based yellow pigment, dispersing the obtained mixture and removing the organic solvent.
