PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal input/output device capable of controlling or monitoring the operations of general electrical equipment via a network. SOLUTION: A gateway 30 includes a function for converting a TCP/IP protocol into a protocol of a private transmission system, and a protocol-converted signal is outputted to a transmission unit 36. A plurality of signal input/output devices 1 are connected through a signal line to the transmission unit 36, and a transmission signal including an address is transmitted from the transmission unit 36 to exchange signals with the signal input/output devices 1. Each of the signal input/output devices 1 includes a network interface 12 for converting a protocol of a signal from the transmission unit 36, and a CPU 10 controls an operational status of electrical equipment connected to respective interfaces 11a-11d based on a control signal transmitted from the transmission unit 36, and transmits a monitoring signal indicative of that operational status to the transmission unit 36.
