PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize capabilities of a printer while reducing the quantity of information to be transferred. SOLUTION: An appearance probability determining means 502 delivers, to a pattern selecting means 504, an output pattern and an appearance probability corresponding to a quantized value inputted form a quantized value input means 501. A pseudo random number generating means 503 generates a pseudo random number and sends that value to the pattern selecting means 504, and the pattern selecting means 504 selects a pattern to be outputted based on the appearance probability and the pseudo random number.
