PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method of an alkyl cyclopentanone-2-carboxylate which method does not need a solvent at all, causes an alkyl adipate to completely react, and requires a low economic expenditure. SOLUTION: The method prepares a cyclic ketone represented by general formula (I) by reacting a metal base with a compound represented by general formula (II) in a solid-phase reactor or a high-viscosity reactor without using an additional solvent. In the formulas, X is an electron-attracting group; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each H, a (cyclo)alkyl, aryl, (cyclo)alkyl ester, (cyclo)alkylamide, aryl ester or arylamide group or a mixed aliphatic/aromatic group and are each possible to be a part of a 4- to 6-membered ring; R<SP>3</SP>is an alkyl or aryl group; and n is an integer of 0-3.
