A control device for automatic gear-shifting in a car has sensors to evaluate the driving condition, the gear already engaged, the gearbox output shaft speed and the vehicle acceleration. There is a computer to process the sensor signals connected to an electrohydraulic unit for shifting gear. The sensors evaluate data on the driver's individual actions in different travel situations (e.g. overtaking, lane changing) and the computer stores the data in a learning phase. Eventually, in a non-learning phase, the actual instantaneous data is compared with stored data, and automatic gear shifting occurs based on expected changes in travel situation. ADVANTAGE- Computer used with fuzzy logic and learning mode. Gear shifting occurs when necessary, according to driver's style of driving. |
