Optical components comprise a glass, semiconductor, metal, ceramic or crystal substrate (7) and a polymer layer (6). This is produced by thermal initiation of polymerization in a mixture of two or more components at 0 - 180[deg]C. An independent claim is included for a method for making the optical components by initiation of polymerization in a mixture of two or more components at 0 - 180[deg]C to produce a polymer layer on an inorganic substrate in a mold (1).
