PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diminishing suspended matter in a chemically oxidized photographic effluent to a level meeting a general waste water standard related to a sewage system, and to thereby provide a method for treating a photographic effluent by which all standard values of oxygen consumption, total nitrogen amount, iron content and suspended matter can be met. SOLUTION: In the method for treating a photographic effluent, after iron which the photographic effluent contains is substantially removed, the photographic effluent is rendered harmless by chemical oxidation.
