<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically determine physical characteristics of an occupant, and to easily and suitably vary a seat position in accordance with them in an automobile V mounted with seats 2 to 5 capable of varying positions. <P>SOLUTION: When startup operation is performed for an automatic seat arrangement device (step S3), information of a carried object is read from an IC tag by a reader device 24 (S4), equipment information regarding the seat such as attachment of a child seat is taken into consideration (S5), and the physical characteristics are determined including whether the occupant is the person to be cared or the person not requiring to be cared. Optimum seat arrangement is set based on the determination result (S6). When the occupant is the person to be cared (S9:YES), automatic seat arrangement is performed before taking seat in an opportunity of opening of doors 5 to 7 (S10), and it is notified (S12).
