<p>A process for the production of a composition comprising (A) a metal oxide sol containing an amine such as diisopropylamine, (B) an epoxy-bearing polycondensable silicon compound such as ?-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane and (C) a curing catalyst such as tris(2,4-pentanedionato)aluminum(III), which comprises mixing the component (A) with the component (B), for example, at a temperature of 10°C or above but below 40°C for at least six hours and then blending the obtained mixture with the component (C). The process makes it possible to produce coating compositions which can give hard coats, particularly one having a high refractive index, when applied to the surfaces of synthetic resin lenses, the hard coats being excellent in tight adhesion, mar resistance, solvent resistance and weather resistance and free from surface pinholes or craters.</p> |
