A brake disc has an acoustic device for suppressing squeal comprising at least one cavity bounded by a prefabricated casing 3 which may be of copper, or sheet steel coated with alumina and be rectangular, box or toroidal-shaped, the cavity being filled with a granular acoustic material 4 such as ceramic waste, quartz or iron balls and being embedded in the material of the disc 2. A gas vent 5 may be provided in the casing 3 and perforations formed in webs separating the blisters through which material forming the disc can pass in the die in which it is cast. Lugs 7 on the blisters 3 ensure that they are correctly located in the die.</p> |
