The invention relates to a vehicular navigation system for calculating a route to a destination, comprising: means (13) for determining a present vehicle position; means (19) for calculating a first route from the present vehicle position to the destination; means (31) for acquiring traffic information; means (19) for calculating an alternative route if acquired traffic information shows a traffic event within a detection range (45), the detection range being an area of predetermined size around the present vehicle position; means (19) for recalculating a route if traffic information shows that a traffic event has disappeared which is in a zone where the detection range and a destination range overlap (47), the destination range being an area between the present vehicle position and the destination.
