The device has a pipe (4) to withdraw liquid from a container and is arranged within and coaxial to a liquid permeable pipe (3). An electroacoustic transducer at the ends of the pipes emits ultrasonic energy. A control and evaluating unit evaluates the emitted energy, which depends on liquid level in the container. Quality and type of the liquid is determined based on the energy and conductivity of the pipes.
