<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which the attributes of a sheet are set surely by a user and conformity is guaranteed as much as possible between the attributes of a sheet set by the user and the attributes of a sheet contained in a sheet feeder, and to provide its control method. <P>SOLUTION: Opening/closing of sheet feed trays 131-134 of an image forming apparatus 10 is detected at a tray opening/closing detecting section 140. When opening/closing of the sheet feed trays 131-134 is detected at the tray opening/closing detecting section 140, a decision is made that the sheet of the opened/closed sheet feed tray is replaced. The user is requested to designate setting of the attributes of sheets in the opened/closed sheet feed tray, and that sheet feed tray is set in unavailable state. When the user designates setting in response to the request, setting of the attributes of sheets in that sheet feeder is validated and unavailable state of that sheet feed tray is released. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
