PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mulching material solving such defects of a conventional countermeasure for preventing overgrowth of weeds in a park, farm field, seashore, developed land, the periphery of roadside trees, or other vacant land that various kinds of methods are considered therefor but have no practical use, require wastage in the future, and cause environmental pollution because resin binders have no biodegradability. SOLUTION: This mulching material is obtained through mixing biodegradable resin emulsion and pigment, or biodegradable resin powder, water and pigment. The biodegradable resin emulsion, or the biodegradable resin emulsion powder comprises a biodegradable resin emulsion produced by subjecting vinyl acetate to seed polymerization, or emulsifying substance obtained by dissolving the biodegradable resin in the vinyl acetate to carry out emulsion polymerization while dropping the emulsified substance in an emulsifier-containing water solution.
