The method operates with a burner (5) by using fuel and oxidation agent and/or furnace waste gas and/carbon dioxide and/or steam which can be supplied as a mixture to the burner. Independent claim describes device with burner (5) connected by a pipeline (7) to an injector (6) and a heat exchanger (8). The injector has an axially displaceable outlet nozzle (12). Independent claim describes use of device and method in aluminium or glass smelting furnaces.
