METHODS FOR PROTECTING A THREADED PORTION OF A TUBULAR MEMBER

Embodiments of the present invention relate to methods for protecting a threaded end (50) of a tubular member (20) and sealingly engaging the tubular member to prevent liquid or debris contamination of the threaded end. In the preferred embodiments, the methods comprise the use of a tubular member thread protector (60) that includes a protector body (70) having an open end (90) providing access to an interior and a closed end (80). The open end (90) is adapted to accept the threaded end portion (50) of the tubular member (20). The exterior surface of the protector body (110) has a seal groove (120) located proximate to the open end (90) of the protector. A compliant seal (130) is adapted to attach to the seal groove (120) on the body and extend over the open end of the body (70) and sealingly engage the outer surface (40) of the tubular member (20).
