PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vanish the areas, where obstacles can not be detected, when obstacles are detected by supersonic waves transmitted simultaneously from a plurality of ultrasonic sensors, wherein the influence of interference of the supersonic waves concerned is minimized. SOLUTION: When detecting obstacles, repeated supersonic waves are transmitted simultaneously from each sensor (the sensor 1 and the sensor 2). In this case, whenever supersonic waves are transmitted the phase difference of each supersonic wave is shifted (see Fig.7). Thus, the areas supersonic waves attenuating through interference can be shifted, resulted in vanishing of areas where obstacles can not be detected (see Fig. 2). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
