PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp which can be improved of the light beam startup properties, without complicating the composition of a circuit for lighting the lamp. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp comprises a glass tube bulb 1 which is filled with a discharging medium, a filament electrode 2 prepared in the bulb 1, lead lines 8 and 9 connected to both end of the filament electrode 2, respectively, an auxiliary amalgam 4 fixed to the lead line, and a resistor 5 connected between the lead lines 8 and 9, having negative temperature coefficient of resistance. The auxiliary amalgam can be arranged between the filament electrode and the resistor having negative temperature coefficient of resistance or the auxiliary amalgam, and the resistor may be connected in series between the lead lines. Furthermore, the auxiliary amalgam and the resistor can be placed at substantially the same distance from the end of the glass tube bulb in the same plane. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
