The system for growing plants on buildings (K) comprises a trellis of steel rods or wire (7). A layer of polyvinyl chloride sheet (3) is attached to this and two layers of water-absorbent fleece (4) are mounted on the sheet. These are rolled over at the top to enclose a supporting bar (8) and a watering system (6), e.g. a perforated hose.
