<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, such as a color printer especially, whose printing work efficiency is enhanced because printing does not need to be interrupted even in course of toner density adjusting work concerning toner density correction for obtaining a good-quality printed image. <P>SOLUTION: When detecting that the number of printed sheets exceeds the set number and the remaining number of printed sheets exceeds the set number, a detection image generating part forms three kinds of detection images 30, 31 and 32 comprising respective color toner images of C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yellow) and B (black) in an area between preceding recording paper 2b and following recording paper 2b after the set number is detected on a conveying belt 3a so as to form CMYB images as one set such as 30% one, 50% one and 70% one in density%. The detection images 30 to 32 are detected by a reflection type photosensor, and their density differences from an ideal density value are compared with each other, then density is corrected if it must be corrected.
