<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video telephone device capable of bidirectionally transferring video and voice in the video telephone device in which a public service telephone network (PSTN) and an asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) are connected. <P>SOLUTION: The video telephone device has a telephone operated on a PSTN system and transfers voice, a control module which is connected with the telephone and controls the voice transfer executed by the telephone, an ADSL module which is connected with the PSTN line and transfers a digital signal between the telephone calling side and the telephone call receiving side, and an image pickup/display unit including an image sensor, which is connected with the ADSL module and transmits a video signal to the counterpart side at a remote end after acquiring the video signal of a user of the telephone, and a display device for displaying the video signal transmitted from the counterpart side. Video data are transferred by utilizing a high-frequency band of the ADSL.
