The invention relates to environment protection and can be widely used for purification of water ponds from hazardous contaminations. The objective of the invention is to simplify the water treatment process and provide for local deposition of separated waste. According to the proposed method, bottom (4) of pond or tank (1) with water (2) is covered with filtering curtain (3). Mixture (5) of contaminated gravel and sludge is then pumped between filtering curtain (3) and bottom (4). Mixture (5) is deposited under filtering curtain (3) while the purified water goes through filtering curtains (3). If filtering curtain (3) is clogged, water is taken away by means of additional valves (6).
