<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brushless motor that can bring a rotor surely into a free state when a load cannot be operated in an emergency. <P>SOLUTION: The brushless motor comprises: the rotor 1A having a magnet field; a stator 1B having an armature winding 103 composed of a multiphase coil Lu or Lw; a driver 4 that is arranged between a DC power supply 2 and the armature winding 103, commutates a drive current applied to the armature winding from the DC power supply, and rectifies an AC voltage induced to the armature winding when the rotor 1A is driven from the outside; a protection relay RY3 that disconnects the DC power supply from the driver in an emergency; and drive control relays RY1, RY2 that electrically disconnect the armature winding and the driver in an emergency.
