PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat panel display device in which a stable display luminance characteristic is maintained over a long time with an economical constitution by improving deterioration in display luminance, that is caused by long period driving, on a circuit, and to provide a luminance control method of the display device. SOLUTION: When a cumulative driving time of a display panel 1 reaches a set time, the wiring voltage to be applied to an electron releasing element 11 is corrected in accordance with a set value and updated, the direction of an electron beam BM released from the electron releasing element 11 to phosphor 12 is changed and deterioration of the display luminance associated with the degradation of the phosphor surface is improved by changing a beam spot position SP on the phosphor surface of the phosphor 12.
