PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform seating detection on a vehicle seat by embedding radio IC tags in the seat itself. SOLUTION: One or more radio IC tags 11A-11F are embedded in each of the seat bottom surface 12 and the seat back surface 13, and the data is read from the IC tags 11A-11F using a reading means 16, followed by a processing made by a processing means 17 according to the read data. The IC tags 11A-11F are of passive type not requiring battery, having characteristics such that no communication can be established if a human body exists closely, and determines that no person is seated on the seat when data can be read from all IC tags, and determines that anyone is seated on the seat when either IC tag can not be read.
