PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform printing at a high speed without the occurrence of misalignment of a recording position or unevenness of a recording image, in a color thermal printer. SOLUTION: Sheet-like color thermal recording paper 10 is electrostatically attracted by a planar platen 22 and planarly held. A thermal head 44 thermally records a yellow image on a line-by-line basis, while a head part 14, wherein a first optical fixing device 46 for fixing yellow and a second optical fixing device 48 for fixing magenta are arranged on both the sides of the thermal head 44, is moved in anα-direction; and the optical fixing device 46 applies near ultraviolet rays so as to optically fix a yellow thermal color development layer. After the completion of the thermal recording up to the final line, the head part 14 thermally records a magenta image while moving in aβ-direction, and the optical fixing device 48 applies ultraviolet rays so as to optically fix a magenta thermal color development layer. After the completion of the thermal recording up to the first line, the head part 14 thermally records a cyan image while moving in theα-direction, and records a full-color image on the recording paper 10.
