<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a display device that can maintain display quality using simple constitution and conceal a display image in a prescribed direction using mode switching, by making another image overlap the display image. <P>SOLUTION: The display device 4 is equipped with a main LCD 14, an SW-LCD 12 which is arranged in the optical path of light transmitted through the main LCD 14 for electrically switching over a viewed image, between a single image display mode and a multiple-image display mode; a 1st polarizer 13, and a 2nd polarizer 11 having a polarization region where, a linearly polarized light in the same direction as with the 1st polarizer is extracted from light projected from a display switching over means and a transmission region where the light projected from the display switching means is transmitted, as it is. The alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules of a liquid crystal layer 23 of the SW-LCD 12 are so controlled that long-axis directions, when light is projected from at right angles to substrates 21 and 22 are always substantially parallel to the polarizing direction of the light, having been transmitted through the 1st polarizer, and the long-axis directions of the liquid crystal molecules are nearly parallel to the substrates in the single image display mode and oblique with respect to the substrates in the multiple-image display mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
