<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is equipped with an intermediate transfer body for easily destaticizing charges after secondary transfer and a destaticizing means to destaticize the charges of the intermediate transfer body by irradiation with light, and which significantly decreases image defects by scattering of toner (blur) that is difficult to prevent in a conventional intermediate transfer body and which stably gives high transfer image quality. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a means of forming a toner image, a means of primary transferring the toner image onto an intermediate transfer body, a means of secondary transferring, a photo-destaticizing means and a cleaning means. The intermediate transfer body has a structure of two or more layers including at least a base material and a photoconductive layer as a surface layer formed on the base material.
