PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically facilitate discrimination of characters and symbols even in the dark such as discrimination characters and symbols equivalent to an ID of an object such as the number of a vehicle, and enable to easily mount a device for such discrimination without the need of any special processing on an installation site. SOLUTION: The illumination device has an electroluminescent element, an optical member imparting directivity to emission light from the electroluminescent element, a transmission sheet on which discrimination characters or symbols equivalent to the ID of an object are printed, or a surface-emitting sheet equipped with cut-out discrimination characters and symbols incorporated for display.
