PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator with low electric power consumption by extending a defrosting cycle on the basis of integrated operating hours of a compressor and operating hours of the compressor for reducing electric power consumption of the refrigerator. SOLUTION: The refrigerator does not have a door switch mechanism in a freezing chamber 2, it is composed of the compressor 8, a decompressor, and an evaporator 3, and it has a cooling fan 5 circulating cold air cooled by a refrigerating cycle in an interior, and a defrosting heater removing frost attached to the evaporator 3. The electric power consumption can be reduced by extending the defrosting cycle and lowering a defrosting heater energization rate on the basis of the integrated operating hours of the compressor 8, and the operating hours of the compressor 8.
