PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light control signal generator for an endoscope capable of appropriately controlling light both at the time of normal light observation and at the time of narrow band light observation. SOLUTION: Signals image picked-up by a CCD (charge coupled device) 29 provided with a color separation filter 30 are passed through a CDS circuit 32 and inputted to a selector 35 constituting a light control signal generation circuit 34. At the time of the normal light observation, the output signals of the CDS circuit 32 are inputted through the selector 35 to an integration circuit 36 for performing integration and turned to light control reference signals <Yn>. At the time of a narrow band light observation mode, after Y/C separation, or the like, is executed, luminance signals Y in the state that the chrominance signal components of a short wavelength outputted from a second matrix circuit 39 are emphasized are inputted through the selector 35 to the integration circuit 36 and turned to light control reference signals <Ynbi>.
